an ultra-quiet cabin. We found the 2012 GMC Acadia's steering to be nicely weighted and very responsive. The vehicle exhibits some body lean under hard cornering maneuvers, but the Acadia's ability to retain its grip on the road surprised even our most seasoned test drivers. The available 20-inch wheel and tire package improves the Acadia's steering feel, but also slightly diminishes its ride quality. The 2012 GMC Acadia's 288-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engine offers good acceleration, but with a full load on board, it could do with a bit more power.  If there was one major gripe regarding our time in the Acadia, it pertained to the high beltline that limits rearward visibility and makes parking maneuvers more difficult.

BMW said its redesigned 3 Series Sports Wagon will go on sale next spring in the U.S. Pricing, equipment and powertrain details haven't been released. The wagon will be available in Europe later this year.
The new 3 Series wagon is slightly larger than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase and wider track. The new model is 3.7 inches longer overall, resulting in more rear-seat room and cargo space.
BMW will offer several trim packages, including Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line, as well as a performance-oriented M Sport Line.

Hide the children. Darken the windows. Get out your all-black clothing. Jeremy Clarkson told a South African radio program that British motoring revue Top Gear will not return until 2013. We think this might be because of the London Olympics. Remember that this summer when you're watching Synchronized Swimming.

Specifically, while talking about the Top Gear Live road show Clarkson says it's the only time the three hosts will be together the rest of this year.
"It is going to be, it better be absolutely fantastic, it's also about the only time the three of us are working together this year because there's no Top Gear on this year."
We think this means we'll have to wait until 2013 for the 19th season to start. We've reached out to the BBC for a comment.

With both Bentley and Lamborghini looking to launch new SUV models in the coming years, Land Rover may soon lose its edge of having the most expensive and most lavish off-roaders on the market.
The Bentley and Lamborghini brands will undoubtedly be able to command much higher prices for their SUVs than Land Rover can ever dream of, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for Land Rover to move a little upmarket as well.
Land Rover tested the waters of launching a considerably more expensive model with its Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition unveiled last year.
Despite costing considerably more than the $80k starting price of the Range Rover, all 500 Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Editions were snapped up within months of the vehicle’s reveal, proving to Land Rover that there is substantial demand for more expensive models.
“The Ultimate Edition shows there’s an opportunity to go up a notch in price,” Land Rover brand director John Edwards revealed to Autocar. “We tested the market for a reason. We always learn for future models.”
Edwards said the demand from China, the Middle East and Russia was huge, adding that customers in more established markets like the UK were also quite receptive of the luxury-laden SUVs.
Some of the special features added by Land Rover’s designers to the Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Editions included a pair of individual bucket seats in the rear, a new center console that ran the length of the cabin, new aluminum, wood and leather trim, and Apple iPads installed in the back of the driver’s and front passenger’s headrests.

The Daytona 500, delayed by rain, may get on the road by 7:02 p.m. ET today, according to Fox Sports. The 54th Daytona 500 is scheduled to air live on Fox.

Crews are trying to dry off the track in time for the evening start. The race had been rescheduled already, and was to have started at noon today.
Mike Helton, NASCAR president, said that the 7:02 start at the Daytona International Speedway is a "reasonable expectation," according to Fox Sports.
The Daytona 500 was expected to be a "ratings jackpot" for Fox -- "if it goes off as expected," according to USA Today.
Officials have been trying to get the rains-soaked race under way since Sunday afternoon.

Hyundai said today it is adding hatchback and sport coupe versions to its Elantra compact car lineup and is preparing to unveil both at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.  
The Elantra, named North American Car of the Year just last month, has helped Hyundai gain respect for design and fuel efficiency. Hyundai sold 186,361 Elantras in 2011, up 40.9% from 2010.
Hyundai expects the two-door coupe model of the Elantra sedan, available this spring, to broaden the reach of Hyundai’s Elantra lineup to more young buyers who often favor sporty design over practicality.
The GT, meanwhile, gives the Elantra lineup more versility with its hatchback and will arrive in dealerships this summer. Pricing for the two models was not announced.
"Elantra GT is a fun-to-drive, functional, five-door compact hatchback,” Mike O’Brien, Hyundai’s vice president of product planning said in a statement.
The 2013 Elantra GT will compete with the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf. According to Hyundai, the GT has more interior volume than those models. It gets 28 miles per gallon in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. At 2,784 pounds, the automatic version of the Elantra GT is also lighter than its competitors by 151 to 222 pounds.

If the all-new Chevy Malibu were to be described in just one word, it would be “quiet.” At the vehicle’s launch event in Austin, TX, company representatives explained exactly why. First they added plenty of sound deadening materials, including a laminated front windscreen and front side windows, then they worked at absorbing solutions. The result is “the quietest Chevy ever” engineers on hand informed us, and out on the road it shows. 
Exterior road noise is all but eliminated and perhaps the best example we came across was when we found ourselves next to a diesel pickup truck, which was pulling a load, heading up a steep hill. After riding along in near-silence it was surprising to actually detect an outside noise. Lowering the window for a second revealed an almost unholy racket. Closing it again shut out the outside world almost completely. In almost all other ways the new Malibu has been improved, though we’d be hard pressed to call it segment-leading.
Matching the premium-level quietness of the cabin is a comfortable ride and one that feels substantial on the road. Contributing to this is a notably wider body and track, gaining two inches in thickness. The Nissan Juke R concept may have sought to define the high-performance compact crossover, but what happens when you don't have a million-dollar budget, Nissan UK's engineering talent and a spare GT-R lying around? You build your own. And that's what Fox Marketing is doing. Well, almost...
 The crew behind some of our favorite builds has apparently taken inspiration from the Juke R and decided to make something slightly less powerful, much more affordable and on the high side of attainable. It's called the Juke S and it's set to debut later this year.
 According to Fox, they'll be retaining the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system used in the standard Juke, but they plan to push the wee engine passed the 400 horsepower mark with a host of breathing mods and a massive turbo.
 Other kit will include 14-inch, six piston calipers, 20x9-inch Nissan wheels, a reworked suspension, Yonaka Ronin racing seats and an exterior fitted with a custom body kit and Foxy Orange paint from BASF. If all goes according to plan, we'll be seeing it before the summer, and hopefully it will inspire Nissan to develop its own hotted-up Juke for production.

Keen to attract more customers to their premium supermini, Audi is now offering a five-door version of the upmarket A1 hatchback.Competing against the MINI Clubman the latest addition to the A1 range features seating for three passengers in the rear cabin and the same 270-litre boot that is found in the three-door A1. Toyota has unveiled the facelifted 2011 Avalon at the Chicago Auto Show.
Targeted at "smart and conscientious consumers" (aka retirees), the Avalon has redesigned bumpers, a wider grille, new headlights, LED taillights, and additional chrome trim.
Inside, the cabin is redesigned with "coordinated colors and rich wood-grain materials." The most noticeable difference is a new dash with a more prominent control panel. In the back, the rear seats recline and have reshaped headrests for better support. Other highlights include a new instrument panel, leather upholstery, a power rear sunshade, and a moonroof.
In terms of technology, the Avalon is outfitted with Bluetooth connectivity, XM satellite radio, a nine-speaker system audio system (a 660-watt JBL Premium Synthesis audio system is standard on the Limited), a rear-view monitor, and an available navigation system.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp (200 kW) and 248 lb-ft (183 lb-ft) of torque. While Toyota declined to release performance specifications, they stated the Avalon has an estimated EPA rating of 20 mpg city / 29 mpg highway.
